Artist Statement
My art-work focus is the arena of abstraction where I explore personal vocabularies based on color, mark-making, building texture and layers. These can resonate with a narrative linked to my emotions and lived experience. I use oil paint mixed with cold wax to create multiple layers of contrasting color on gessoed panel.
My process: Shapes carved out with squeegee, paint added with brush, Q-tip or palette knife. Lines carved into paint with palette knife, drawn with pigment stick, or removed with solvent. As shapes are carved out—covering and revealing— something unexpected is created.
When I use bright, vibrant color in my paintings, their energy and movement echoes the vibration of life. Beginning a painting is about diving deep into a timeless space to discover what will be revealed. I work intuitively—going deep to connect with unconscious energies—those which exist beneath everyday reality.
